I’ve always loved making homemade soap—it feels so much more personal and nourishing than anything store-bought. When I first heard about French green clay, I knew I had to give it a try in one of my soap recipes. If you’ve never used it before, you’re in for a treat. French green clay is well-loved in natural skincare because it gently draws out impurities, balances oily skin, and leaves your skin feeling refreshed without being harsh.

I was curious to see how it would perform in a bar of soap, and I have to say, I’m hooked. It gives the soap a beautiful natural green color, but it also makes the bar feel so smooth and creamy. Plus, the recipe I’m sharing here is really easy to make, even if you’re new to soap-making.

Here’s my simple step-by-step guide to creating your own French green clay soap at home.

This makes around 20 soaps if using the same mold.

Benefits of Using French Green Clay

  • I like using French green clay because it helps pull out dirt and oil from my skin. It’s especially helpful when my face feels greasy or a bit clogged up.
  • The texture is smooth but still gives a gentle scrub. It helps get rid of dry skin without feeling rough.
  • It’s great for balancing my skin when it gets too oily. I’ve noticed it helps reduce shine and keeps my pores feeling cleaner.
  • It’s full of natural minerals.
  • I love the soft green color it gives my soap. No need for added dyes.
