Apple Cider Vinegar Trap
This trap utilizes apple cider vinegar’s allure for gnats and fruit flies. Combine 2-4 tablespoons of vinegar with a few drops of dish soap in a cup or bowl. Place it in areas where gnats are prevalent, like the kitchen or near houseplants. The mixture attracts gnats, trapping and eliminating them.
Red Wine Solution
Similar to the vinegar trap, red wine attracts gnats. Mix red wine with dish soap in a bowl and position it where gnats are observed. The gnats are drawn to the wine, become trapped, and drown.
Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint oil is a natural repellent for gnats. Mix a few drops with water in a spray bottle and apply around your home. This solution is ideal for deterring gnats without killing them. Other essential oils like eucalyptus, citronella, lavender, and rosemary can also be effective.
Baking Soda and Vinegar
To address gnats around sinks and drains, pour a mixture of vinegar and baking soda down the drain. This combination exterminates gnats breeding in drains. Follow up with boiling water to clear any remaining organic material that might attract gnats.
Bleach Trap
For gnats lingering around kitchen drains, a bleach solution can be effective. Mix ½ cup of bleach with a gallon of water and slowly pour it down the affected drains. Allow the solution to sit for at least 10 minutes before using the sink again.
Candle Trap
Gnats are drawn to light, making a candle an effective trap. To set it up, place a candle in an empty holder or tray filled with water. Light the candle in the area where gnats are present and turn off other lights. Attracted by the candle’s flame, gnats will either burn upon contact with the flame or drown in the water below.
Sticky Gnat Trap
Sticky traps are a non-toxic way to catch gnats. Simply set up the trap in your home, and once it’s full, dispose of it. This method is safe and effective for managing gnat populations.
