I am all about making my own everyday, all-natural products at home. Making my own mint coconut toothpaste seemed like the next big step in my homesteading journey. It was a great way to ditch store-bought toothpaste and switch to something homemade with ingredients I trust and know the source.
This simple recipe uses only a few ingredients. It’s all-natural and made with coconut oil, baking soda, and peppermint. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties, while baking soda gently whitens teeth, and peppermint essential oil gives a fresh, minty flavor. You can even add a touch of stevia for sweetness if desired.
Follow these easy steps to create your homemade toothpaste.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 3 tablespoons baking soda
- 10 to 15 drops of peppermint essential oil
- Stevia to taste (optional)
How to Make Homemade Toothpaste
- Heat the coconut oil in a small saucepan or microwave until it is liquefied.
- In a small bowl, stir together the liquefied coconut oil and baking soda.
- Add 15 drops of peppermint essential oil and continue to stir until well combined.
- If you prefer a sweeter toothpaste, add a bit of stevia to taste and mix well.
- Transfer the mixture to a 3-ounce (90 mL) sealed container for storage.
How to Use This Homemade Toothpaste Recipe
To use, simply dip your toothbrush into the mixture or scoop a small amount onto your toothbrush and brush as usual.
